Lithuania declares a state of emergency

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausida has signed a decree declaring a state of emergency in the country.

The decision to declare a state of emergency is due to the current situation in Ukraine. The presidency asked Parliament to approve the decree.

“Today I am signing a decree on imposing a state of emergency, which Parliament will approve in an extraordinary session,” Nosida said.
“We are talking about Lithuania’s external security and we are obligated to do everything so that it is guaranteed without a doubt.”

In turn, the Speaker of the Lithuanian House of Representatives, Viktoria Semlet Nielsen, said that an extraordinary session of Parliament would take place “immediately”.
