Dubai, May 18 / WAM / The ship “Hashim 199”, owned by His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and captained by Nokhatha Hassan Abdullah Mohammed Al Marzouqi, won the title of the 33rd edition of the “Al Qaffal” long-distance race, designated for local 60-foot sailing ships. Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Al Nasr Cultural and Sports Club, was crowned, in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa.
Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates Marine Sports Federation, and Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Sports Club, are the champions of the 33rd edition of the Al Gaffal Race.
123 ships participated in this edition, gathering a few days ago on Sir Bu Nair Island, in preparation for the launch, which was postponed yesterday before the Supreme Organizing Committee took a decision to hold it today (Saturday), despite the challenges represented by the state of the sea and chose to reduce the route of the first stage.
The crew of the ship “Hashim 199”, the champion of the 2022 edition, succeeded in reaching the finish line first, and “Al Shaqi 96” came in second place, “Shaheen 57” in third place, “Toofan 21” in fourth place, and “Ghazi 103”. “In fifth place.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President of the Emirates Marine Sports Federation, praised the organizational success of the Al Gaffal 60-foot Sailing Race in its 33rd edition, and appreciated the efforts of the Dubai International Marine Sports Club.
He stressed that the “Al Qaffal” saga continues to present its distinctive messages through the race, which has been held successfully for three decades and witnesses greater development in various technical and organizational aspects every season.
For his part, Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Sports Club and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, congratulated His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the crew of the ship “Hashim 199” winning the title for the second time. He also congratulated all participants on their safe arrival.
