In Arkhangelsk, the motor ship “M.V. Lomonosov” is on fire at the dock

The motor ship “M.V. Lomonosov” caught fire at the dock of a ship repair enterprise in Arkhangelsk. About it reported TASS agency with reference to the Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Arkhangelsk region. The head of the department, Alexander Bakhtin, is at the scene of the fire.

The fire area is more than 900 square meters.

The Agency of State Fire Service and Civil Protection of the Arkhangelsk Region clarified that by the time the first fire and rescue squad arrived, the second deck of the ship was burning. There were no people on the ship, there were no injuries, TASS reports, citing a representative of the regional fire service.

More than forty specialists and special equipment are working at the fire site.

The North-Western Transport Prosecutor’s Office is checking the circumstances of the fire.

The current incident is not the first on this cruise ship. On May 6, 2023, a fire broke out in the engine room in the central part of the ship on the lower deck. People were evacuated. The fire damaged the walls of the engine room.

How reports “Fontanka.Ru”, “M.V. Lomonosov” was built in 1962 in Budapest. After construction it was called “Olekma”, it was serviced at the Limenda shipyard in Kotlas. In 1990, the ship was renamed “M.V.Lomonosov”. Until 1991, the ship plied along the Northern Dvina along the route Kotlas – Arkhangelsk. Since 1992, the ship was laid up, until in 2004 it was bought by the vocalist of the group “Dune” Viktor Rybin, Fontanka writes with reference to 29.RU.

After the 2004–2005 modernization, passenger capacity was reduced from 300 seats to 60, and the ship served only corporate charter flights. In the off-season it was used as a floating hotel at the Northern River Station of Moscow.

In July 2018, the ship was sold to the Foundation for the Preservation and Development of the Solovetsky Archipelago. On Solovki, the ship was used as a floating hotel until 2022, when it was donated to the government of Yakutia. It was assumed that it would run between Tiksi and Yakutsk.
