Strike for Olympic bonuses: traffic "very seriously disturbed" Tuesday on RER and suburban trains, announces SNCF

Traffic will be “very seriously disturbed” Tuesday, for commuter and RER trains operated by SNCF due to a strike by Ile-de-France railway workers on the eve of a day of negotiations on bonuses received during the Olympic Games, Transilien SNCF announced on Friday May 17. Sud-Rail and the CGT-Cheminots are at the origin of this call for mobilization, joined in places by Unsa-Ferroviaire. The strike falls the day after Pentecost Monday and Transilien, which manages commuter train activities in Ile-de-France for SNCF, recommends postponing travel or favoring teleworking.

Negotiations concerning the bonuses allocated to railway workers mobilized during the Olympic Games are still underway at the SNCF and a conclusive meeting must take place on Wednesday, the day after the strike. Conversely, at RATP, negotiations ended on Monday and agents will receive on average a bonus of 1,000 euros gross but which could go up to 2,500 euros for particularly busy metro and RER drivers.

“We found that the negotiation was dragging a little and we wanted to provoke things”explained AFP Fabien Villedieu, federal secretary Sud-Rail. “We have a significant workload with 4 500 additional trains in August, so a whole series of colleagues will not be able to go on vacation”he recalled.

Similar strike movements took place in transport in the run-up to the Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 or in London in 2012, he underlined, specifying that “the only place where there hasn’t been one is China”. According to him, at least 90% of the drivers of line R of the Transilien and RER D should be on strike on Tuesday.
