Images from the scene show about 20 police officers and paramedics treating a man before being strapped to a stretcher and put into an ambulance.

The witness said the chaotic scene was ‘well under control’ within 20 minutes after plain-clothed police in unmarked cars and two riot squad vans arrived.

They saw police manually opening and closing what appeared to be a small flick or fold knife before placing it in an evidence bag.

The police spokesperson said there is ‘no ongoing threat to the public’.

A second crime scene has been established at the intersection of Castlereagh and Park Streets.

More to come.
