Charlotte Gainsbourg disappointed with her DNA test? “I was hoping for blood…”

Born to a French father and an English mother, Charlotte Gainsbourg took a DNA test to find out more about her origins. And the result was probably unexpected!

She is currently starring in the film We, the Leroys, released in theaters on April 10. Charlotte Gainsbourg plays José Garcia in this comedy by Florent Bernard. A very French film for an actress with multiple horizons.

These DNA results she didn’t expect

Charlotte Gainsbourg gave a cross interview with Charlotte Rampling to the magazine Madame Figaro, on April 18. The actress speaks openly about her life and her cinematographic choices. What do the two women have in common? Their origins. One Charlotte is 50% English, the other 100%. “I did a DNA test, I was hoping to have many other origins – at least Irish, Scottish, countries that I love, first explains Charlotte Rampling. With colonization, the English were in many countries and I thought my ancestors had mixed. But no !”

A DNA test also undertaken by Charlotte Gainsbourg. Curious to know where her ancestors come from, but with a well-formed idea in mind. “I took the same test, I came out 50% English and 50% Ashkenazi Jewish from Russia”she reveals to Madame Figaro. Disappointment for Yvan Attal’s partner! “I was hoping to have Mongolian blood, because my father had slanted eyes, or other slightly exotic origins, she explained. Nothing, it’s just half and half…” Appearances can be deceiving…

After New York, a life in London for Charlotte Gainsbourg?

Born to a French father – Serge Gainsbourg – and an English mother – Jane Birkin – Charlotte Gainsbourg grew up in France but feels part Anglo-Saxon… Attached to her family history, she recently inaugurated the plaque in front of the his late father’s house, now a museum, in Paris. Indeed, Serge Gainsbourg’s house has been classified with the label “Houses of the Illustrious” which aims to preserve and transmit the memory of women and men who distinguished themselves in the political, social and cultural history of France.

Although she has never lived in England, she now dreams of a life across the Channel. A desire not shared by his other half… “I have the fantasy of going to live in London, but Yvan categorically rejects the idea”she explained to Madame Figaro. London no, but New York yes! Charlotte Gainsbourg had lived for more than 7 years in the Big Apple. What did she like best about the United States? Being able to live in complete anonymity!
