The Armed Forces of Ukraine were transferred “to more advantageous positions” in the Volchansk region

Ukrainian troops, in response to the offensive of the Russian army, “moved to more advantageous positions” near the city of Volchansk and the village of Lukyantsy in the Kharkov region – “to save the lives of military personnel.” This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the evening report for May 14.

Volchansk and Lukyantsy are located in the north of the Kharkov region near the border with Russia.

The day before, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that the Ukrainian military repelled 11 enemy attacks in the Kharkov direction, in particular, in the directions Glubokoe – Liptsy, Lukyantsy – Liptsy, Borisovka – Neskuchnoye, and the Russian Shebekino – Volchansk.

Earlier, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine admitted that Russian forces had “partial tactical success” in the battles for the border town of Volchansk, but, according to Kyiv, the Russian offensive there has so far been stopped.

In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that units of the North group of the Russian army captured several villages in the Kharkov region on the border with Russia. Among them are Pletenevka and Gatishche north of Volchansk, as well as Borisovka, Ogurtsovo, Pylnaya and Strelechya. Ukrainian project Deep State confirmsthat the Russian military managed to gain a foothold in several villages in the Kharkov and Volchansky directions.

Meanwhile, the American Institute for the Study of War writes in its report that the pace of Russian offensive operations in the north of the Kharkov region has slowed down over the past 24 hours.

According to analysts, the nature of the offensive activity of the Russian army corresponds to the version that the priority of the Russian military is to create a buffer zone in the border area, and not to penetrate deeper into the Kharkov region.

  • The shelling by Russian troops of Volchansk and a number of other territories of the Kharkov region sharply intensified on May 10. On the same day, the Russian military launched an offensive, crossing the border in a number of areas and trying to gain a foothold in border settlements on Ukrainian territory. The scale of the offensive and its goals and objectives are not yet clear.
