Giro 2024: Jonathan Milan dominates the other sprinters on the 11th stage and signs his second victory

Milan establishes its domination. The Italian colossus, already dressed in the cyclamen tunic of the best sprinter, dominated the other “big thighs” of the peloton. The day after the breakaway victory of Frenchman Valentin Paret-Peintre (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale), the route of the 11th stage between Foiano di Val Fortore and Francavilla al Mare (207 km) was promised to the sprinters, Wednesday May 15.

Almost perfectly flat, the last hundred kilometers of this stage helped the teams of sprinters to control the desires of the fugitives. At the finish, Jonathan Milan, already winner of the fourth stage in Andora, beat Tim Merlier (Soudal-Quick-Step) by a short length, before the Belgian was downgraded for a dangerous movement in the last meters, notably blocking Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates), fifth.

With three non-starting sprinters on Tuesday (Olav Kooij, Ethan Vernon and Max Kanter), the day after the day of rest, the plateau had become somewhat thinner. The fall of Fabio Jakobsen, Tobias Lund Andresen (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) and Jenthe Biermans (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) in the final also eliminated several contenders.

But Jonathan Milan, overpowering, once again dominated the other finishers in the best form, starting with Tim Merlier and Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), his closest pursuers in the points classification. The trained track rider consolidates his lead in this ranking, which he had already won in the 2023 Giro.
