Russian specialists develop a biomaterial for complete bone restoration

Moscow, May 18 / WAM / A group of specialists at the Russian Volgograd State Medical University has succeeded in developing the world’s first biogel, which allows complete restoration of bone tissue and treatment of major bone injuries caused by bullets and shrapnel.

The Russian “TASS” agency quoted Dmitry Kombantsev, head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Pyatigorsk branch of Volgograd University, as saying that the biogel is a complex mixture for bone restoration and nutrition, enhanced with regeneration stimulants, and this approach allows the body to launch its own bone tissue repair mechanism.

He added that the level of conformity of the recovered bone tissue is 100%, because it is “synthesized” by the body’s osteophyte cells (growth from the bone tissue itself), and so far there are no officially registered materials in the medical products market that are similar in terms of the composition of the product.

Kombantsev explained that the material is unlike inert bone replacement materials available on the market, because it is a smart system that activates the healing processes and treatment of shattered bones.
