The United States seeks to exclude Russia from the Human Rights Council

The US permanent representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, said that Washington would seek to exclude Russia from the UN Human Rights Council.

Greenfield killer: “This Russian participation in the Human Rights Council is wrong, so we believe it is time for the United Nations General Assembly to vote on its impeachment.”

According to the rules of the organization, a country can be removed from participating in the council if two-thirds of the countries vote in the General Assembly.

In March, a number of US senators asked the White House to put forward an initiative to expel the Russian Federation from the UN Human Rights Council.

In response, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said Russia’s exclusion from the Human Rights Council would set a dangerous precedent.
