“A monstrous step”. This is how Tadej Pogacar described the route of the day. The day after Saturday’s time trial, unsurprisingly won by Filippo Ganna (Ineos-Grenadiers), the Giro riders set off on Sunday May 19 on more mountainous terrain. On the program for this 15^e stage of the Tour of Italy: the longest route of the route, which extends from Manerba del Garda to Livigno, over 222 kilometers of racing. Five peaks will stand on their route, including the new Colle San Zeno and Mortirolo (16%). With the last 50 kilometers almost entirely uphill, and a finish at an altitude of 2,385 meters concluding two kilometers at a 19% gradient.

Although he did not win the previous stage, Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), still wearing the pink jersey, took advantage of the time trial to increase his lead in the general classification. Second in the clock, 29 seconds behind Ganna, he took 45′ on his runner-up Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers). Before today’s stage, he is 3’41 ahead of the Englishman and 3’56 over Daniel Martinez (Bora-Hansgrohe), 3rd overall.
