Communication systems produced in Ukraine end up in the hands of the enemy

Gilat SkyEdge satellite Internet communication systems produced in Ukraine are imported to Russia, and from there they go to the front, where they are used by the Russian military. About it informs TV channel “Present Time” with reference to the investigation of the project “Slidstvo.Info”.

Gilat satellite systems for the Israeli corporation Gilat Satellite Networks (GSN) are produced in Uzhgorod, at the facilities of the American outsourcing company Jabil Circuit. The publication notes that the Israeli corporation supplied these systems both to the Russian market and to many other countries.

“Since the early 2000s, Gilat Satellite Networks has been helping Russians develop a satellite communications network for both private needs and the public sector. Gilat is a partner of the largest satellite communications operators – Rostelecom’s subsidiary RTCOMM and Gazprom’s subsidiary “Gazprom Space Systems”.

After the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, GSN, according to investigators, did not close its Russian business and continues to supply satellite communications systems to Russia through its subsidiary Gilat Satellite Networks (Eurasia).

Gilat Satellite Communication Systems sell dealers throughout Russia. The notes to the system description often indicate that the product can be used for the needs of “SVO”, notes publication “Investigation.Info”.

Based on the customs declarations cited by the investigators, all Ukrainian-made systems were sent to Russia via Israel and Turkey. The Ukrainian manufacturer of Gilat systems, as journalists clarify, knows nothing about such deliveries to its Israeli customer.

Slidstvo.Info notes that satellite communication systems supplied to Russia are not subject to Western sanctions as dual-use goods.

“The American government allows companies from this field to operate in Russia, since we are talking about civilian access to satellite communications under the pretext of protecting freedom of speech and information.”
