Tens of thousands take to the streets of Pakistan to support Imran Khan

Tens of thousands of supporters of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Tehreek-e Insaf party have taken part in mass protests against the coup in Pakistan.

Gatherings began in all major cities of Pakistan, including the capital, Islamabad. Residents took to the streets to express their support for Khan. He thanked his supporters.

“Thank you to all Pakistanis for their incredible outpouring of support and passion to protest US-backed regime change to bring to power a group of collaborating scammers on bail,” Khan wrote on social media.

Khan was already removed from office by a decision of the country’s House of Representatives, which Khan had previously dissolved. After that, the country’s Supreme Court decided to put the question of a vote of no-confidence to Parliament.

Khan himself claims that Washington decided to overthrow him for the sake of an independent foreign policy. On March 7, he said, a message was received from the US saying “Pakistan will reap if Imran Khan leaves”, otherwise Pakistan “will have to face the consequences”.

Previously, Khan refused to denounce the Russian military operation in Ukraine. In response to a call to this effect from Western diplomats, he said that the Pakistani authorities are not “slaves who will do what you tell them”.
