Sweden will apply for NATO membership at the end of June

Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson plans to apply for NATO membership in June this year.

According to the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, citing sources in the country’s ruling Social Democratic Labor Party, the request is scheduled to be presented at the NATO meeting in Madrid on June 29-30.

In turn, Aftonbladet newspaper reported that the ruling party leadership will hold a special meeting on May 24, in which the country’s position on NATO membership will be discussed.

Earlier, information appeared in the media that against the background of hostilities in Ukraine, Sweden and Finland may apply to join NATO.

If this happens, they will likely be accepted into the alliance quickly, as NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said earlier.
