Amna Al-Dahhak heads the UAE delegation to the 38th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development in Riyadh

Dubai, May 3 / WAM / Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, headed the UAE delegation during the 38th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, which lasted two days and concluded yesterday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The meeting, in the presence of Their Excellencies the Ministers of Agriculture of the Arab League member states, discussed a number of important topics aimed at developing ties between Arab countries and coordinating cooperation among them in the agricultural field, and increasing this contribution to enhancing Arab food security.

Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al-Dahhak stressed that the UAE has an integrated vision to enhance its national food security by transforming its food systems and the entire food value chain into sustainable, climate-smart systems in order to confront climate change and the challenges of water shortages and lack of arable land, from a broader perspective that aims to establish More advanced agricultural development projects and launching local and global initiatives to enhance cooperation with friendly countries and relevant international organizations in order to enhance global food security as a common issue that requires collective action.

Her Excellency said: “The UAE’s participation during the 38th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development was fruitful, as the UAE has a positive and influential role in supporting the organization’s role in enhancing Arab cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security. During our participation, we emphasized our continuing efforts in this regard by transferring Expertise, experience, and investment in the UAE’s influential global role in implementing modern agricultural and food security systems to serve the Arab countries’ efforts to develop their agricultural and food sectors in a sustainable manner.”

Her Excellency stressed that the UAE’s food security is an integral part of Arab food security and affects it positively, and that the state, under its wise leadership, is making every effort to advance an integrated food security system that increases its positive impact on the Arab food security system for the benefit of the peoples of our sister countries in the region. .

Her Excellency praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the 38th session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, and also appreciated the role of the Arab Republic of Egypt in hosting the organization’s headquarters temporarily from the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, and ensuring and continuing to fulfill its role during the coming period.

The meeting touched on a number of topics, the most important of which is the adoption of the organization’s work plan for the years (2025-2026), following up on the progress of work in the Arab Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy and the Arab Program for Sustainable Food Security, and ways to strengthen the Arab Aquaculture Strategy.

The meetings dealt with the organization’s support for the efforts of Arab countries in implementing the three Rio conventions on desertification, biodiversity and climate, and determining the topics of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development Awards for Arab Food Security for the years 2024-2025.

The meeting agreed to establish the Arab Program for Excellence in Capacity Building in Modern Agricultural and Environmental Technologies in the Arab and African regions of the Kingdom of Morocco.

On the sidelines of the session’s work, Their Excellencies the Arab Ministers of Agriculture met with the Minister Plenipotentiary, Dr. Raed Ali Saleh Al-Jubouri, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Unions, and a number of issues were agreed upon, the most important of which was the approval of amending the name of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development to the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development and Food Security, and the formation of a ministerial committee. A permanent committee for Arab food security, chaired periodically by one of their Excellencies the Arab Ministers of Agriculture, for a period of two years.

The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development aims to develop the natural and human resources available in the agriculture, fisheries, and food sectors, improve the means and methods of investing them on scientific grounds, raise the efficiency of agricultural plant and animal production, optimize the exploitation of fish resources, and achieve the desired agricultural integration among Arab countries in order to achieve Arab food security. And facilitating the exchange of agricultural and fishery products between Arab countries, in addition to supervising the implementation of programs that would confront food crises and enhance food security.
