The Armed Forces of Ukraine reject the statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense about the capture of Rabotino

The Russian Ministry of Defense in the report for May 15 stated that the village of Rabotino in the Zaporozhye region was “completely liberated,” for which heavy fighting had been going on for almost a year. The Ukrainian military said that the claim about the capture of the village was untrue. There is no independent confirmation of who exactly controls the settlement. Previously, both Russian and Ukrainian sources reported that neither side had complete control.

The village with a pre-war population of several hundred people was almost completely destroyed.

Last June, one of the strikes of the Ukrainian military during the summer counteroffensive fell on Rabotino. They managed to take the village after many days of fighting, but the Ukrainian military was no longer able to advance further south, towards Tokmak and Melitopol. Since the beginning of this year, attempts by Russian troops to recapture the village have been reported.

“Ukrainian truth” quotes the words of the press officer of the 65th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Sergei Skibchik, who stated that “the village is under the fire control of Ukrainian and Russian troops at the same time,” but most of the territory of the village is still under the control of Ukraine. The message about the alleged capture of Rabotino was made against the backdrop of the recently launched offensive of Russian troops in the Kharkov region. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of the village of Lukyantsy, as well as an improvement in the situation near the city of Volchansk. The Ukrainian General Staff, in turn, stated that the Russian military had been partially driven out of Volchansk, but fighting continued in the city.

The Ukrainian leadership recognizes the seriousness of the situation. On Wednesday, it was announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would postpone planned foreign visits and remain in the country.
