Urgent.. Biden signs a law banning the import of uranium from Russia
On Monday, US President Joe Biden signed a law previously approved by members of the US Congress prohibiting the import of uranium from Russia.
The White House said in a statement that Biden signed Law No. HR 1042, which prohibits the import Non-radioactive, low-enriched uranium produced in Russia or by a Russian facility.”
On April 30, the US Senate approved a bill (HR 1042) prohibiting the import of uranium from Russia. The document, which was approved by the US House of Representatives in December, was then sent to Biden for signature.
The law, which will enter into force 90 days after its adoption, includes a ban on the import of low-enriched uranium produced in Russia or One of the companies registered there, and the ban will continue until 2040.
At the same time, the document allows the US Secretary of Energy, in agreement with the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Commerce, to lift this ban in the event that other sources of uranium supply are not available.
Centrus, the largest nuclear fuel company in the United States, has warned that after the ban is imposed, it will ask the relevant administrations to make exceptions in order to continue supplying uranium to its customers and to ensure the interests of the entire American nuclear industry.
