Nécessaire founder Randi Christiansen shares her go-to skincare

If there’s a woman who gets the inner workings of the beauty industry, it’s Randi Christiansen. Born in Denmark (Scandi cool is very much her modus operandi) she spent 15 years working at Estée Lauder Companies before co-founding personal care brand Nécessaire with Nick Axelrod-Welk (of Into The Gloss).

The line-up started where other brands ended: below the neck. The products were discerning, cool, clean and formulated with ingredients typically associated with skincare (Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Retinol). It’s now a cult favourite (you can find it at Mecca), since moving into haircare. According to Christensen, the brand has ambitions to expand even further.

I was lucky enough to catch up with her last month when she was in Sydney. She’s a wealth of knowledge when it comes to brand-building, and her taste in skincare is second to none. Here’s everything she loves right now:

“How do you say it in English… Biologique Recherche? I have been using the P50 and can I tell you, it is so good. For years friends have told me to try it and I finally have. I use P50, and the moisturiser in the blue diamond tub, the Crème MSR-H. It works. It’s so effective.

I still use the La Mer Concentrate. It’s a classic for me and I can’t let it go. I don’t use it all over my face, but on places where I have scars or marks. I love Youth To The People, too. I love the products and the founders Joe and Greg.

My routine is the Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser, P50, the diamond Biologique moisturiser and The Concentrate on any scars. That’s my face thing. I am committed to my products!

I love the CHANEL Le Lift under-eye patches, too.

Body goes without saying. I particularly love The Body Serum and The Body Cream. I love mixing them together, I’m religious with that every single day. I find the biggest difference in my skin health long-term is proper cleansing. So many body cleansers are stripping and dry you out. I think we really nailed our body cleanser. It’s textural, sensorial, purifying, hydrating… I love it.”
