Revealed: The rare reason why Arsenal WON’T wear their new home kit for Premier League title decider against Everton despite launching the strip

The unusual reason why Arsenal won’t be wearing their new home kit against Everton has been revealed.

The Gunners are hoping to win their first Premier League title since 2004 on Sunday when they face the Toffees, though must hope West Ham can at least hold rivals Manchester City to a draw.

Should the title come down to goal difference, Arsenal will emerge victorious, but will fall short if they fail to beat Everton or if City win their game.

Ahead of the match, Arsenal launched their new home kit, which is dedicated to ‘the year of the cannon’ and replaces the home crest with the machinery for the first time since 1990.

Usually, clubs will wear the following season’s kit on the final day of the season, but Arsenal have opted not to due to the nature of the game.

The move is a decision made by Arsenal because are able to win the title on the final day.

Premier League rules state that clubs can wear the following season’s kit if 14 days of notice are given and that the strip is registered, but Mikel Arteta’s side have nonetheless decided not to wear it.

The title has been decided on the final day just nine times previously, with this weekend marking the 10th.

Arsenal revealed the strip on Thursday morning with in a short video explaining the relationship between the cannon and the club.

A narration in the video is heard reading: ‘Some things never leave us, wherever we go. Our cannon, our compass, guiding us forward as one. On, and on, and on.’

The strip is naturally red, with the sleeves white with blue stripes down the arms. The logo, manufacturer and sponsor is white, though the Gunners will have to see what colour the Premier League logo on the sleeve will be as the title race goes to the final day.

Rival supporters had previously mocked the look of the kit, arguing the main part of the strip had a ‘little bottle design in the middle’.

The video featured a number of flags including the cannon, with Gabriel Martinelli seen on the Emirates turf waving a giant flag of his own.

Lotte Wubben-Moy can also be seen in the stands at the ground donning the new strip as she unveils a huge flag, with Bukayo Saka seen turning on the big screen and Beth Mead paining one of the walls inside the ground.

Later in the video, the likes of Alessia Russo and Martin Odegaard are seen showing off the shirt.

Should City win, it would mark their fourth Premier League title in a row, the most of any club.

They moved to the verge of the trophy on Tuesday when they beat Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham, with Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou releasing a fiery outburst after the game.

According to The Athletic, the Spurs boss was frustrated by the fact ‘a few club staff members’ were relaxed about losing to City, given the context of the title race.
