Long Island teen faces charges in fatal crash in Centereach while in stolen car and high on drugs, police say

CENTEREACH, Long Island (WABC) — A 16-year-old Long Island boy faces serious charges for allegedly causing a crash that killed a 73-year-old woman while she was in a stolen car and under the influence of drugs.

Police say the teen crashed a stolen Range Rover into the back of the victim’s car in Centereach on Saturday around 9 p.m.

Police say the teen attempted to flee the scene, but was caught by an off-duty Suffolk County deputy.

The victim was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A passenger, a 50-year-old man, who was also traveling in the sedan, was also taken to the same hospital for serious injuries. His identities have not yet been revealed.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the crash to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555.
