Dave, forced to retire? He earns too little money and fears “the last year of his life”

Dave, who has just celebrated his 80th birthday, will return to the stage to celebrate this new milestone. After this tour, does he intend to bow out? The artist needs money…

While the public feared for him after his domestic accident three years ago, Dave got back on track and returned to the stage of the Grand Rex this May 21 to celebrate his 80th birthday with great fanfare. Just that ! With 2,800 seats, it is the largest Parisian venue in which he has performed solo. For the occasion, his friends Nicoletta and Marc-Olivier Fogiel will also be there! But is this his last lap? Does the singer plan to retire soon? He confided without disguise to the Figaro

Will Dave end his career? His “crappy retirement”

Dave is adamant: he won’t stop singing! “Saying goodbye is out of the question“, he blurted. He even set himself a goal! “In four years, my plan is to sell 1 million albums“, he joked (or not), referring to Henri Salvador who sold a million opuses at 84 years old.

Let his fans rest assured, therefore, the one who has shared his life with Patrick Loiseau for almost 50 years does not intend to bow out any time soon! “My best moments are being in bed with my loved one and being on stage. I don’t want to stop this. Between a singer and his audience, it’s like a couple. There are moments of passion, of weariness and then we meet again“, he explained.

Furthermore, on a financial level, the interpreter of Vanina don’t feel so peaceful! “I have a crappy pension: I receive 1700 euros gross per month. A flight attendant friend has 3000 euros“, confided the artist, who, like many Yéyé singers, did not think of contributing to retirement at the height of his glory. No question for him of lowering the curtain, therefore.

Dave, facing death: “This may be my last year”

Fortunately for him, the after-effects of his heavy fall down the stairs in January 2022 did not prevent him from singing. And although he was faced with a loss of taste and smell for a long time after his hospitalization, his condition seems to be improving: “I do a lot of Scrabble for memory and I tasted a strawberry for the first time yesterday, so I have some hope. I’m lucky that my voice hasn’t dropped at all“.

Despite everything, the octogenarian singer is realistic about the end of life. “Male life expectancy has just increased from 79 to 80, maybe this is my last year? My father died at 83 and my mother at 79. Since then, life expectancy has changed“, he declared. But he intends to be a hundred years old if fate (and his lifestyle) allows him!
