Starlink, USA and Ukraine oppose Russia on the Internet

The US, Ukraine and Elon Musk’s SpaceX are collaborating to stop Russia from using the Internet from the Starlink system. reported Bloomberg, citing Assistant Secretary of Defense for Space Policy John Plumb. According to him, “the United States has found solutions both with the management of Starlink and with Ukraine.” Plumb did not disclose what specific decisions were being discussed.

Since 2019, when the first Starlink satellites were placed in orbit, several thousand relay satellites have appeared. Starlink terminals operate in the USA, Canada, European countries, Australia, and some countries in Latin America and Africa.

In Russia, licensed use of Starlink is not possible, but it is possible to buy terminals, usually this is done through marketplaces. On this pays attention RBC. Such terminals operate through a subscription issued in the name of residents of European countries.

In early 2024, several media outlets reported on the use of Starlink terminals by the Russian military. In 2023, Russian troops had several dozen terminals at their disposal. The emergence of this information caused Musk to state that “not a single Starlink terminal was sold directly or indirectly to Russia.”
