Bahrain confirms its support for efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip

New York, May 2 / WAM / The Kingdom of Bahrain renewed its call to support the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate national rights, support efforts aimed at an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and launch a serious and real political process to achieve permanent and comprehensive peace in the region, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. Its capital is East Jerusalem, in accordance with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions, and the acceptance of the State of Palestine as a full member state in the United Nations.
Bahrain News Agency reported that this came during the Kingdom’s participation in the session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York regarding the use of the veto, which comes in the wake of the use of the veto in the Security Council on the draft resolution to accept full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations.
Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations, expressed the Kingdom’s regret that the Security Council was unable to adopt the draft resolution in light of the suffering of the Palestinian people from the occupation and the continuation of the war and the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, stressing that completing international recognition of the Palestinian state and its full membership in the United Nations The United Nations has a legal and political right within the legitimate and inalienable historical rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions, and an essential step to establishing just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.
The Permanent Representative praised the efforts of Algeria, the Arab member of the Security Council, in submitting the draft resolution and its defense of common Arab issues, expressing Bahrain’s aspiration for the 33rd Arab Summit, which it will host next May 16, for everything that would enhance joint action towards crucial issues, and support the foundations of Security and stability.
He said that the Palestinian issue represents the essence of the conflict in the Middle East region, and that the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip constitutes a painful tragedy that must be stopped immediately, in addition to that it threatens security and stability in the region, stressing the urgent need for the international community, especially the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities. In implementing the immediate ceasefire resolutions in the Gaza Strip, including Security Council Resolution 2728, in a way that preserves the lives of civilians and provides them with the necessary humanitarian and relief assistance without obstacles.

The Permanent Representative reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s rejection of anything that leads to the expansion of the war or ground attacks on the city of Rafah, or the displacement of Palestinians from their lands.
