Launching the third edition of the Youth Competition 2024 to empower youth and support innovation and entrepreneurship

The Supreme Council of Universities, headed by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and in the presence of Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Council and members of the Council, which was held at the headquarters of the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology in Borg El Arab, witnessed the launch of the third edition of the Youth Competition 2024; To empower youth and support innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of health and population in Egyptian universities.

 

During the meeting, Dr. Tarek Tawfiq, Deputy Minister of Health for Population Affairs, reviewed the details of launching the third edition of the youth competition for the project “Strengthening Egypt’s Family Planning Program,” which is sponsored by the National Population Council. In cooperation with the Supreme Council of Universities, and with support from the United States Agency for International Development, the project is implemented by the John Snow Foundation.

 

The competition aims to empower and raise the capabilities of young people and encourage them to be creative and innovate awareness campaigns. Various pioneering community initiatives to raise public awareness about population issues, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, the rights of persons with disabilities, population issues, and reproductive and sexual health, as the competition helps to study problems more deeply and find more effective solutions.

The conditions for applying for the competition include students enrolled in government or private universities and institutes in all governorates, while encouraging students from Upper Egypt and border governorates to participate, and providing all means of support and facilitation to allow them to participate.

 

The conditions stipulate that the team must be composed of (3-5) individuals, the age must be (18-24) years, and proof of a record of civic participation, volunteering, or enrollment in any community activity other than Academic “if any”, and willingness to commit to the 4-month national population programme, taking into account semester and exam dates, and compatibility of training schedules with university lecture schedules for students.

 

Participation in the competition also requires that the student have the desire to work on a creative idea for an awareness campaign, or a community initiative to promote issues of population, family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights, through the use of various means, including (arts, music, sports, technology, etc.); To target different segments of society, the prizes are worth 50,000 for the first prize, 30,000 for the second prize, and 20,000 for the third prize. 

 

For his part, Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, the advisor, confirmed The media figure and official spokesman for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said that one of the Ministry’s most important priorities is to spread awareness among university students about national issues and problems facing society, noting that the launch of the third edition of the Youth Competition 2024 contributes to providing the opportunity for creative youth to display their talents and capabilities in various fields. Fields.

 

It is worth noting that the first edition of the competition (2020 – 2021) was sponsored by the National Population Council, in coordination with the American University in Cairo, and witnessed the participation of 40 Egyptian public and private universities in The level of 27 governorates, in which 64 students participated. The students formed 15 different groups from universities, and succeeded in reaching 100,000 people from the target groups, through awareness sessions and social media campaigns.

The second edition came. The competition was a national initiative that relied on 3 basic pillars: providing skills and knowledge, financial support, and empowerment and communication at the national level in order to better understand Egypt’s vision. It witnessed the announcement of the victory of 4 teams out of 7 participating teams, and they were as follows: Won the position The first team: "Not by number" The value of the prize is 20 thousand pounds, and the second place went to the “Hayat” team. He won a prize worth 15 thousand pounds, while the “Step of Hope” team came in third place. He won a prize worth 10,000 pounds, and the team “Your Family is Amanah” came in third place, and won the prize worth 10,000 pounds.
