Russia receives 800 million euros daily from energy exports

European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said that energy exports bring Russia 800 million euros a day.

According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin uses these funds, in particular, to finance the military operation in Ukraine.

“This situation cannot continue, it is necessary to expand the sanctions,” he said on the air of the French channel LCI.

European Union countries introduced five packages of sanctions against Russia over its military actions in Ukraine. EU members have been unable to agree on the sixth package of sanctions for several weeks now.

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that differences over the terms of the embargo on Russian oil are a stumbling block.

The sixth package includes a ban on the import of crude oil from the Russian Federation within six months, and on the import of petroleum products next year.

At the same time, the European Union is considering allowing Hungary, Slovakia and Austria to buy oil from Russia even after the imposition of sanctions, so as not to obstruct the European embargo.

Also, new sanctions may affect the disconnection of a number of Russian banks from the SWIFT system and a ban on the provision of advisory services, the purchase of real estate and other operations involving technology.
