Egypt is committed to the national strategy…and the situation in Gaza "Shame on humanity"

Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the National Council for Human Rights, participated in the 79th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, where she delivered a speech that focused on Egypt’s commitment to human rights and its efforts to confront regional challenges, stressing Egypt’s commitment to human rights through the launch of its first national strategy in 2022.  

The President of the Council said that the Egyptian Constitution of 2014 devoted an entire section to human rights, and a commitment to harmonize legislation with international human rights conventions.

 

Khattab pointed out that the Council’s participation in the 79th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights expresses Egypt’s firm commitment to promoting and protecting human rights at the local and regional levels.

Ambassador Khattab noted Egypt’s commitment to empowering women, noting that 44.5% of the members The National Council for Human Rights of Women, and stressed the importance of involving civil society organizations in the human rights discourse.

Ambassador Khattab addressed a number of critical issues, including  Female circumcision, which she described as “a crime and a flagrant violation of human dignity.” ;, emphasizing its role in coordinating a community movement against female genital mutilation with various partners, including non-governmental organizations, and highlighted Egypt’s legislative efforts to tighten sanctions.

Ambassador Khattab also expressed her deep concern about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Continued, describing it as a “disgrace to humanity.” Emphasizing Egypt’s firm support for the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. She reviewed Egypt’s efforts, including hosting displaced Palestinians, providing humanitarian assistance, and negotiating the release of hostages.

 Ambassador Khattab acknowledged the challenges facing the human rights movement in the Arab world and Africa, especially in the face of ongoing conflicts and lack of Political stability. She stressed the need to continue dialogue and cooperation to promote human rights in the region.

 

 

In her speech, Khattab stressed Egypt’s support for South Africa’s position on Holding perpetrators of human rights violations accountable. Egypt joined South Africa’s lawsuit against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). 

Ambassador Khattab called on African countries to recognize the State of Palestine established by United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 181 (1948). She also highlighted Egypt’s role in supporting Sudan by receiving refugees and providing significant humanitarian aid.

 

The Ambassador renewed her letter calling on Egypt to take international measures to protect civilians in Gaza and end the Israeli conflict. Palestinian. She urged the international community to fulfill its responsibility to protect human rights and ensure accountability for violations.

 

Ambassador Khattab stressed Egypt’s active role in regional cooperation on human rights issues. She pointed to Egypt’s participation in various initiatives and its commitment to sharing best practices with other African countries.

The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the session praised Egypt’s speech in special appreciation of the Egyptian efforts and the efforts of the National Council for Human Rights in consolidating human rights in the country.
