This came during His Excellency’s speech in a session entitled “Artificial Intelligence: A future vision for its applications to serve society,” as part of the digital readiness retreat organized by the Supreme Committee for Government Digital Transformation with the participation of ministers and government officials, with the aim of enhancing integration and digital cooperation between federal agencies, and highlighting digital government models. His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama touched on the UAE’s journey towards development and prosperity and its focus on keeping pace with global changes and technological developments, pointing out that over the past years, artificial intelligence solutions have witnessed the fastest adoption in the history of humanity, which requires the fastest keeping pace from governments to ensure proactiveness and leadership in this field, and achieve Make the most of this technology in various fields that include health care, education, media, etc.
His Excellency said that the expectations that the economic returns of artificial intelligence will reach $320 billion in the Middle East, and the expectations that the artificial intelligence sector will contribute to the UAE’s gross domestic product by 14% by 2030, and the ability of this field to raise productivity by 50%, confirm the potential of this sector. Its endless opportunities to change the landscape of sectors and economies around the world and redefine jobs, skills and qualifications.
He pointed out that the artificial intelligence sector includes a system of opportunities and challenges, as deep fakes were used to steal $25 million from a global company, and artificial intelligence is used to produce thousands of toxic compounds in less than 6 hours, and at the same time global factories provide one million dollars annually at a discount. Costs have increased significantly using artificial intelligence, and companies achieve a commercial value of 1.84 billion dirhams by employing artificial intelligence techniques. The Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi uses artificial intelligence techniques to monitor the soil and verify the quality of 250 sites with an area of ​​3.8 million square meters in just 50 days, which confirms The importance of optimal use of artificial intelligence and employing it to benefit societies and enhance human safety and security.
He pointed out that the duty of governments today lies in keeping pace, anticipating, and pioneering, which is what the UAE realized early on, to write a success story in developing data centers and developing skills, as it achieved third place in the world in attracting artificial intelligence talent compared to the size of the population, according to the LinkedIn report. The UAE is also keen to develop educational institutions that keep pace with future changes, which are considered the basic building block for developing major projects, such as developing linguistic models at global levels.
His Excellency said that the UAE is characterized by a flexible legislative environment that reflects its keenness to cooperate with institutions and the private sector to provide an environment that enables prosperity and development, and extends from the UAE to the world, which was embodied in the leadership’s proactive and future thinking when it launched the artificial intelligence strategy as one of the UAE’s centenary projects to be artificial intelligence.
