"Dubai Consumer Protection" Intensive supervisory rounds are being carried out on the markets during the first quarter

DUBAI, 15th May / WAM / The Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, one of the institutions of the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, carried out intensive monitoring tours of markets and commercial establishments in Dubai during the first quarter of this year with the aim of informing merchants and consumers of their rights and duties, taking care of the interests of the entire business sector, and enhancing the competitiveness of doing business. A statement issued by the Corporation stated that officials from the Corporation’s Consumer Protection Department met with merchants and consumers during the 232 rounds and aimed to emphasize the placement of the Consumer Protection Number in a clear location for consumers and the importance of that, in addition to displaying contact numbers and information for receiving complaints and inquiries, in order to ensure a comfortable experience. And fair for everyone.
The Corporation held meetings with a number of commodity suppliers and sales outlet officials during its visits to the markets, during which it introduced them to the importance of dealing transparently with consumer complaints and addressing them efficiently and responsibly.
For its part, the Corporation’s Intellectual Property Protection Department continues its efforts to organize supervisory operations in local markets, through rounds aimed at protecting intellectual property rights and strengthening the legislation regulating them.
The Intellectual Property Protection Department received 199 applications related to registered trademarks during the first quarter of this year, 8 of which were from commercial agencies that required cooperation with the Ministry of Economy to process them appropriately. While the Intellectual Property Protection Department works in coordination with other government agencies to implement oversight campaigns, including The Economic Crimes Department of Dubai Police carried out 63 campaigns during the first quarter of this year.

The Department also succeeded in implementing a large number of oversight rounds during the first quarter of the year 2024, which included more than 10,000 commercial establishments to ensure the protection of intellectual property rights for trademarks, in addition to organizing awareness workshops for representatives of these trademarks to inform them of the latest laws and regulations followed by the Department in this regard. .
