"We often talk about the little death of the athlete, but I am not going to experience it: I am going to give life"rejoices saber fighter Charlotte Lembach

Charlotte Lembach is released. Light, the saber fighter of the French team – team silver medalist in Tokyo -, now a young retiree and future mother, looks back on these years of struggle to get pregnant, she who learned very late that she was suffering from endometriosis. She announced her pregnancy in the columns of Marie Claire a few weeks ago.

Franceinfo: sport: This baby, with the difficulties you encountered, the pre-Games timing… Is it unexpected?

Charlotte Lembach : You should know that after the Tokyo Games, I had decided to stop my career to start a family. Which didn’t happen. Except that after two and a half years, and even after returning to fencing, I discovered that I had endometriosis, and that I could not have a child without help.

When I decided to take up the saber again, the primary objective still remained to be pregnant and not necessarily to take part in the Games, even if those in Paris were on my mind. My partner and I agreed that we would try and that if it happened, it would be the most beautiful thing in the world. We therefore scheduled the PMA protocols based on the end of qualifications for the Games and whether I was selected or not. It was clear in our heads that if I was qualified, we would start the protocol in September 2024. If I was not, we would start it in April.

We were also reassured by the fact that the PMA protocol would follow behind. The gynecologist told me: “Don’t worry, you will have children, you just need help. Finally the miracle happened naturally at the beginning of January 2024.
