Agriculture: deputies vote for the creation of a new bac +3 level diploma

A new national undergraduate diploma, at bac +3 level, could soon provide training for professions in agriculture and the agri-food industry. The deputies adopted an article of the agricultural bill providing for its creation, Friday May 3 in committee. This degree will continue “an objective of professional integration in the agricultural and agri-food professions”. It was to be titled “Bachelor agro”, but MPs from all sides opposed what they considered to be an unwelcome anglicism.

An amendment, carried by the Macronist and LR rapporteurs, provided the possibility of“accredit” private establishments of higher agricultural education, and not only private agricultural high schools, as provided for in the initial text. The six existing private agricultural higher education establishments “have more agricultural engineering students than public establishments”underlined the rapporteurs.

Several deputies on the left opposed the measure in substance. It’s a “crazy idea” And “no one asked for this thing”criticized the communist Sébastien Jumel. “I have never heard of it in twenty years in the educational community” of the need for this diploma, added LFI MP Aurélie Trouvé, drawing on her experience in agronomic education. The two elected officials raised the risk of a “privatization” Education.

“It doesn’t come out of nowhere.”defended on the contrary the Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau, believing that this diploma fulfilled “a missing link” pointed out by the establishments, and which will make it possible to improve “the attractiveness of our training”. Earlier in the morning, the deputies also adopted a series of articles, in particular to clarify the missions of public technical agricultural education, which must provide modules on the agroecological transition or organic agriculture.

The evening before, they had adopted an article listing public action priorities in terms of training. An amendment from the Liot group set for 2030 a target of a 30% increase in the number of students in technical agricultural education compared to 2022, a 75% increase in the number of veterinarians trained compared to 2017, and a 30% increase in the number of agricultural engineers compared to 2017.
