The Technological Innovation Institute launches a platform for large Arabic language models (OALL).
ABU DHABI, 16th May / WAM / The Technology Innovation Institute of the Advanced Technology Research Council in Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the leading evaluation platform Hugging Face and the Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence 2A2I, today announced the launch of the first pioneering platform for large Arabic linguistic models, hosted by the HuggingFace Center under the name: The leading platform for large open Arabic language models (OALL).
OALL aims to provide a leading platform dedicated to evaluating and comparing the performance of large Arabic language models, and to enhance research and development capabilities in the field of natural processing of the Arabic language.
The Arabic platform plays a pivotal role in developing models and applications that are fine-tuned to suit the nuances that characterize the Arab language, culture and heritage.
As a community-oriented platform, it is neutral, transparent, inclusive, and open to the entire Arabic NLP community.
Dr. Hakim Hasid, Executive Director and Acting Head of Research at the Artificial Intelligence Unit at the Technological Innovation Institute, said, “Evaluation is considered a fundamental pillar of any progress achieved in the field of artificial intelligence, and from this standpoint, we offer our leading platform to support innovation in the Arab world, and to contribute to enhancing the integration of the Arabic language within AI models as a first-level language.
He added, “This initiative contributes to a radical change in the community of large Arabic linguistic models, and raises them to a new level. This platform will also set a unified standard and reference for joint work and innovation at the level of society as a whole.”
In turn, Ali Al-Filali, President of the Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence 2A2I, said, “We are excited to launch the leading open platform for large Arabic linguistic models, OALL, as this initiative plays a pivotal role in enabling community members to easily evaluate their linguistic models and other versions of the models, along with a wide range of Tasks that would otherwise be very costly, by enabling direct access to assessments.”
He added, “We expect that this platform will enhance the production of more large Arabic language models, and encourage more innovators to develop versions specific to their specific tasks and needs. This will lead to improving generative artificial intelligence products for all Arabic speakers in various parts of the world, and in enriching the global scene.” “For natural language processing using diverse and comprehensive tools.”
On the other hand, Clementine Fourier, the researcher responsible for pioneering platforms and evaluations at the HuggingFace platform, said, “Over the past few months, we have been working with the Technological Innovation Institute and with the Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence (A2I2) with the aim of creating a pioneering open platform for large Arabic linguistic models.”
She added, “We believe that it is important to support and promote research in the field of non-English natural language processing, as the majority of research focuses on the English language, and our goal is to develop useful assessment tools for a broader audience, and we particularly hope that the Al-Rowad platform will contribute to promoting this type of research.” “Similar to how the leading platform Upstage has enriched the natural processing of the Korean language.”
