Russia begins construction of fourth power unit of Turkish nuclear power plant

The Russian state company “Rosatom” has started construction of the fourth power unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey.

It is noteworthy that the beginning of the first concrete pouring under the foundation slab of the new power unit was presented by the General Director of the company Alexei Likhachev and the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez.

Likhachev explained that the emergence of a new power unit will lead to a change in the status of the nuclear power plant, meaning that the fourth unit will appear on the IAEA’s list as an official nuclear power unit. under erection.

Akkuyu is the first nuclear power plant on the territory of Turkey. The first concrete was poured for the first power unit of the nuclear power plant on April 3, 2018, for the second unit – at the end of June 2020. On March 10, 2021, the Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Erdogan, participated in laying the foundation for the third power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

The first Akkuyu NPP power unit is scheduled to be launched in 2023.
