The Russian President appoints Andrei Belousov as Minister of Defense
Moscow, May 13 / WAM / Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed economist Andrei Belousov as Minister of Defense, succeeding Sergei Shoigu, who was appointed as the new Secretary-General of the National Security Council, succeeding Nikolai Patrushev.
The Russian Sputnik news agency quoted Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that Putin proposed appointing a civilian to the position of Minister of Defense, because the ministry must be open to innovation and advanced ideas.
