Andorran parliament decides to legalize same-sex marriage

The General Council of Andorra has voted to give same-sex marriage the same status as marriage between a man and a woman.

Prior to that, there were two types of marriage in the country: “ecclesiastical” marriage, in which men and women could enter into it, and “civil” marriage, in which same-sex couples could also enter.

Representative Carles Insigna commented on the adoption of the new law: “We vote for a law that concerns us all. This is the law of the modern state that guarantees the free development of citizens in a society that bases its success on the fundamental organizational core – the family, in all its diversity.”

Now, for the law to come into force, it is necessary that it be signed by, French President Emmanuel Macron and Urgell Bishop Joan Enric Vives y Sicilia.
