‘Unprisoned’ Adds Brandee Evans, Oliver Hudson & Jamie Chung To Season 2

EXCLUSIVE: The Onyx Collective‘s Unprisoned is rounding out the Season 2 cast with Brandee Evans (P-Valley) in a recurring role, as well as Oliver Hudson (The Cleaning Lady) and Jamie Chung (Lovecraft Country) in guest starring roles. Season 2 premieres Wednesday, July 17 on Hulu with all 8 episodes dropping at once.

Inspired by creator Tracy McMillan’s life, UnPrisoned follows a messy but perfectionist relationship therapist, social media influencer and single mom, Paige Alexander (Kerry Washington), whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad, Edwin Alexander (Delroy Lindo), gets out of prison and moves in with her and her teenage son Finn (Faly Rakotohavana).

In Season 2, the Alexander family is still a mess. Paige’s therapy practice is in trouble, Finn’s anxiety is through the roof, Edwin is still figuring out how to get his life together outside of prison, and their relationships are more complicated than ever. The family needs help, and it’s time to call in a professional – OTHER than Paige. They turn to a “family radical healing coach,” who throws out all the rules to free them of the issues, old wounds and family secrets holding them back.

Evans will play Ava, Mal’s (Marque Richardson) new girlfriend. She just finished law school and is smart, and confident, but often underestimated. Hudson will play Johnny, Finn’s biological dad. He’s a musician who is funny, pretty chill and lives in Los Angeles with his wife. Although he hasn’t been a traditional father, he cares about Finn. Chung will play Kiki, Paige’s best friend from college. Twenty years later, Kiki is married, polyamorous, and still the life of the party.

The series is executive produced by Tracy McMillan, Yvette Lee Bowser and Kerry Washington, alongside Pilar Savone, through their Simpson Street production company, and Delroy Lindo. Joy Gorman Wettels and Jen Braeden also executive produce. The series hails from Onyx Collective on Hulu and is produced by ABC Signature.

Evans leads the Starz hit series P-Valley in the role of tough, veteran stripper Mercedes since the series premiered in 2020. She received an NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress for her work on Season 1 of the Katori Hall-created drama which is currently in production on Season 3. Hudson recently starred in the FOX series, The Cleaning Lady. Chung most recently starred in Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood and as Ji-Ah in HBO’s Lovecraft Country. Recently, she starred opposite Bryan Greenberg in Junction. She will next be seen in the Spyglass feature film Reunion and I’m Beginning to See the Light. In 2012, she won the Special Jury Award at SXSW for her performance in the film Eden.
