Abu Dhabi, 30 April / WAM / The Joint Assessment Team for Meteorological and Tropical Situations, as part of ensuring the integration and compatibility of national efforts, held a meeting within a series of follow-up meetings, to discuss developments in the weather situation and the extent of its impact on the country.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, with the participation of the Ministry of Interior, the National Center of Meteorology, and relevant government agencies.

The Authority stressed the necessity of activating business continuity plans, and continuing monitoring and evaluation of the weather situation and its consequences in all regions of the country, in order to ensure the safety and security of society, and to reduce the impacts on society and property.

For its part, the National Center of Meteorology confirmed that the weather condition the country is witnessing is less severe than the previous one.

According to the center, the country will witness from today, Tuesday, until tomorrow, Wednesday, local cumulonimbus rain clouds during the day, with the possibility of small sized hailstones falling in the eastern regions and extending to some interior and western regions.

On Friday and Saturday, cloud amounts will decrease, with the continued chance of light to moderate rain that may be heavy in some southern and eastern regions.

For its part, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed that the Supreme Committee for Internal Security, headed by the Undersecretary, continues full coordination with the Joint Assessment Team for Weather and Tropical Situations, and continuously follows developments in the weather situation, to find out all the expected effects of the situation and its consequences on the areas that may be affected by the state, especially since the state It is in the process of recovering from the previous weather condition.

The Ministry indicated that it has taken all proactive measures to support and support response operations, with the necessary resources and capabilities in places likely to be affected by the weather condition, the severity of which is expected to be between medium and high in various areas of the country, in addition to the readiness of dealing plans and business continuity for vital entities.

The Ministry of Interior places the safety of society and the protection of lives and property at the top of its list of priorities, calling on the public to follow precautionary measures, adhere to safety standards and guidelines, adhere to the directives of the competent authorities, refrain from circulating and spreading rumors, and the importance of obtaining information from official sources in the country.

In turn, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure explained that, in preparation for the weather situation, it has taken all necessary measures to ensure the safety of infrastructure and roads, in addition to the safety of dams and raising the efficiency of their work in storing water, including emptying water to relieve pressure on it, absorbing new quantities of rainwater, and cleaning water drains.

The Ministry stressed that the advanced systems and modern technologies used in managing dams play a role in raising their efficiency and providing the ability to make quick decisions while monitoring the flows of rainwater, torrents and floods in the valleys, as well as the use of modern technology in the process of analyzing and calculating the speed rates of water flows, their quantities and their depth. With high accuracy and sending it to the Ministry’s control and monitoring unit, processing and analyzing its data.

The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in coordination with federal and local authorities, supervises 103 dams, barriers, and water lakes in various regions of the country, with a storage capacity of 80 million cubic metres, which were implemented based on the needs of the regions, and in accordance with the highest international standards and safety requirements that ensure the preservation of… Lives and property.

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority stressed the need for the public to commit to social responsibility and adhere to the instructions issued by the concerned authorities, stressing the importance of obtaining news, developments and the extent of influence from official sources in the country, and not circulating rumors and false information to avoid legal accountability.
