This sad evening in 1965, Michèle Torr sang at the Alcazar in Marseille. The one who had already opened for Jacques Brel at the Palais des Papes in Avignon was just beginning her career as an artist. She was only 18 years old and success was already waiting for her. But after giving this show in Marseille, the young singer returned to her hotel to recover from her emotions, without knowing that she was going to learn terrible news.

That evening, she received a message from the Avignon hospital asking her to call the establishment back. “We know, but we don’t want to understand, in fact. And then at one point, we’re at the hospital and they tell you outright, since I didn’t want to understand it, I didn’t want to hear it. And they take me to see mom“, she remembered on Faustine Bollaert’s show.

Michèle Torr: “I wanted to kill the person”

He had just been told of the death of his mother, who did not survive a road accident during which she was hit by a driver who had drunk alcohol after a family party. Clémence Tort, Michèle Torr’s mother, was driving in a car that her famous daughter had just given her. For the singer, the world collapsed at that moment. But she remained in denial for a while. “I said: ‘But she has nothing. She has nothing, it’s not possible’. Afterwards, we know, we admit it, obviously. But there, the anger… I wanted to kill the person“, she said.

“At the moment, a hysterical crisis, I wanted to kill him (the driver, editor’s note). Afterwards, we can calm you down“, added the singer, now 77 years old, but still upset by this sinister memory. In addition, the interpreter of Take me dancing tonight had to break the terrible news herself to her father and her little sister, who was only nine years old at the time.

However, the artist managed to get back on track thanks to the support of her fans, loved ones and family. Today, she is the mother of Romain Vidal, born in 1967 from her affair with the singer Christophe, and of Emilie, born in 1973, who is the fruit of her former love with Jean Vidal. Michèle Torr is also a grandmother of four grandchildren.
