U.S. F1 fans fume as Logan Sargeant crashes out of home race after Kevin Magnussen wreck

American Formula One fans are fuming on social media as Williams’ US driver Logan Sargeant crashed out of his home race at the Miami Grand Prix after Denmark’s Kevin Magnussen spun him off track. 

Magnussen – a 31-year-old F1 veteran of 10 years – collided into the left rear of the 23-year-old Sargeant’s car on a right turn on lap 28 of Sunday’s race, forcing the Florida native to go off track and into the grid. 

Subsequently, a safety car emerged to interrupt drivers’ momentum.

Magnussen, of Haas, was eventually given a 10-second time penalty for the collision, as race officials claimed the wreck was his fault. 

He was also later noted for failing to properly serve his penalty.

‘Being a Logan Sargeant enthusiast means suffering every single race weekend,’ a user on X reacted to her favorite driver abandoning Sunday’s race due to the crash. 

‘We really can’t catch a f***king break.’ 

Another shared: ‘Logan Sargeant has suffered more than Jesus Christ.’

Meanwhile someone else said after the wreck: ‘Yeeeah that’s probably that for Logan Seargeant. Never forget #F1 #MiamiGP.’

‘Homerace heartbreak,’ a Sargeant fan page tweeted along with heartbreak emoji.

Sargeant, who is the only American in F1, previously competed in the FIA Formula 2 Championship driving for Carlin Motorsport before making stepping up to racing’s top division last year at the Bahrain Grand Prix. He is the younger brother of former NASCAR driver Dalton Sargeant. 

No updates on his post-wreck condition have been released.
