Nottingham Forest and Steven Reid have been sanctioned following an incident against Liverpool on March 2, with a referee report detailing the harrowing words aimed at official Paul Tierney.

A statement released by the FA on Wednesday confirmed that the club admitted ‘its players and technical area occupants did not behave in an improper way after the final whistle’ having been charged by the FA at the start of the month.

Reid, who is a first team coach at Forest, was shown a red card by referee Tierney following the full time whistle, with Darwin Nunez scoring a 99th minute winner for the Reds.

The goal came in controversial fashion, with Tierney giving the ball to Liverpool rather than Forest after a restart that was caused by Ibrahima Konate going down in the box with a head injury.

Unsavoury scenes followed the final whistle, and an independent Regulatory Commission has now sanctioned both parties.

A £75,000 was imposed following a hearing following the events., though the club dismissed reports their owner Evangelos Marinakis had to be restrained after chasing Tierney down the tunnel, but said he did approach the official.

Reid admitted that his language towards a match official was abusive and insulting, though denied that he acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting language towards a match official after being sent off.

The independent Regulatory Commission found the second charge against Reid, who made nearly 400 appearances as a player for the likes of Millwall and Blackburn, to be proven and he has been handed a two-match extended touchline suspension and a £5,000 fine.

Tierney detailed the stunning allegations in his match report of the game, writing: ‘Following the final whistle I was surrounded by members of Nottingham Forrest’s substitutes and backroom staff on the field of play. One of those who approached me was Steven Reid (a coach of Nottingham Forest) who was not listed on the teamsheet.

‘He asked me about a decision and I said to him that I will speak to him inside and not outside on the field of play. He then continued to question me and I repeated that I would speak to him inside. He then said, “It’s the same every week, you ****.”

‘I showed him the red card and then he said, “I worked with you fucking lot every f***ing week last season. It’s the same every f***ing week you ****.” He then continued to use the word f*** and called me a **** on at least one more occasion (making that a minimum of three in total) as we were making our way off the field of play.’

Assistant referee Scott Ledger stated in emails with the FA: ‘After the final whistle while we were leaving the field of play, we were approached by Nottingham Forest coach Steven Reid. Reid made several comments regarding our integrity as a group of officials. 

‘Reid made a comment calling Paul a “****” at least three times. Also after being shown the red card he continued to make comments about the PGMOL making reference to the group of referees being against his club.’

Reid was fined £5,000 and will serve an extended two-game touchline suspension for Forest matches

Reid will now not be able to take his place on the touchline for his side’s games against Crystal Palace and Fulham at the City Ground in the Premier League.

Forest find themselves embroiled in a relegation fight having been deducted four points for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are currently 18th in the league table, one point behind Luton in 17th with nine games left to play.
