Toni Kroos ‘nears Real Madrid contract extension until 2025’ as 34-year-old midfielder earns reward for stellar season… including reviving his Germany career!

Toni Kroos is reportedly in line to seal a one-year contract extension at Real Madrid.

His current deal expires this summer but his employers are so impressed with his performances that they are willing to keep him until at least 2025.

Kroos, 34, has played in all bar three of Madrid’s games this campaign and is a stable midfield presence for younger charges to learn from.

He announced a shock return to the German national team in February and made his first international outings in almost three years this month, even captaining the side.

Madrid have discussed a new deal with him and he is set to agree, with signing it just a formality, according to Fabrizio Romano

This comes as a huge surprise considering that as recently as March 19, he left his future wide open for debate.

‘Many things are not clear about what will happen after the Euros. I don’t even have a club contract for next season yet. I would have to clarify that first,’ he said.

However, he did the same last year, only signing an extension until this summer.

In a Real Madrid set-up rearing some of football’s brightest young talents – Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Arda Guler – Kroos’ experience is incredibly valuable to Los Blancos.

While playing a central midfielder role and often sitting deeper than his counterparts, he has chipped in with seven assists.

In the summer he will reach a decade of service at the Santiago Bernabeu and he will hope to add to his four Champions League and three LaLiga titles before his anniversary.

His trophy-laden stint has seen him turn out 455 times for the Spanish superclub and another season could see him reach the magic 500 – a club only 15 players belong to, including current star Luka Modric.

Almost 1,000 days after retiring from international football, Kroos returned to the Germany starting line-up against France and then against the Netherlands.

He was integral to their 2014 World Cup win but has insisted he is not a ‘saviour’ figure for a side which has underperformed at recent big tournaments.

Germany exited the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in the group stages and only made the last 16 of Euro 2020.

That said, two assists and two wins on his return certainly offers promise. He even wore the captain’s armband against the Netherlands.

A final shot at glory in his homeland – and indeed Madrid – would be fitting chapters towards the end of an iconic career, which has seen Kroos emerge as one of the best in his generation.
