MY FAVOURITE SHIRT – PETER TAYLOR: Crystal Palace away 1975-76… Our run to the FA Cup semi-finals as a Third Division club changed everything for me as I earned an England call-up

Palace’s run to the FA Cup semi-finals as a Third Division side in 1976 coincided with a new shirt — blue-and-red sash against a white background — that summed up the vibrancy at the club under Malcolm Allison.

We started against Walton & Horsham and beat Leeds and Chelsea, before losing to the eventual winners, Southampton.

Allison was an extrovert and his fedora became national news.

The attention on us led to England calling me up as a Third Division player, which won’t happen again.

I went on to play for Spurs and managed England. That cup run started everything.
