An urgent measure from the government will be implemented starting today regarding goods in ports

Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly confirmed the continued follow-up of efforts to accelerate the pace of customs release of goods and merchandise located in various Egyptian ports in light of the availability of foreign currency from the banking system and in order to enhance the volume of supply in the Egyptian market of basic commodities, necessary production requirements for industry, as well as medicines and others.

 

This came during the meeting held by the Prime Minister, today, Monday, to follow up on the executive position on the customs release of goods at the ports, and the position on implementing the advance shipping system.< /span>

 

For his part, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Maait, indicated that in the same framework and in implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister to end the neglected position of goods at the various customs ports, the Customs Authority has issued instructions in Circular No. 18 of 2024, which stipulates the obligation of the customs administrations concerned to proceed with the procedures for transferring goods. For neglected people and the procedures for selling these goods, in accordance with the provisions of Customs Law No. 207 of 2020 and its executive regulations, as of the first day of this April.

 

The Minister added that the new circular also stipulated the cancellation of Circular No. 43 of 2023 issued regarding the prohibition of any of the concerned customs administrations from transferring goods located in ports or temporary warehouses, including perishable or defective goods, to the general administrations for neglect or taking Selling procedures; Except after submitting a memorandum to the head of the authority, prepared by the relevant customs administration; It includes a statement of the condition of the goods, and its expiration date, if any.

 

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Counselor Muhammad Al-Homsani, explained that the meeting witnessed a review of the value of goods registered, approved and released at customs ports until March 31, 2024; This value has witnessed a continuous increase in recent weeks due to the availability of foreign exchange, to release the targeted goods.

 

The meeting also reviewed the position on the advance registration of shipments systemACI and the values ​​of goods registered with that system, whether current or existing.

 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Muhammad Maait, Minister of Finance, Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, Muhammad Abu Musa, Assistant Governor of the Central Bank, Issam Omar, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Al-Shahat Al-Ghatouri, Head of the Customs Authority, Mona Nasser, Assistant Minister of Finance, and Reda Ismail, Head of the Department of Finance. Maritime Transport, Amani Al-Wasal, Director of the Export Development Fund, and Engineer Mohamed Fathi, Assistant Minister of Transport for Maritime Transport.
