Drew Barrymore Tells Maya Rudolph She Had To Beg To Do ‘SNL’ Digital Short “Body Fuzion”

Drew Barrymore had Maya Rudolph as a guest on The Drew Barrymore Show and recalled she had to beg to do the Saturday Night Live digital short “Body Fuzion.”

The daytime show host recalled that back in 2007, she had to plead to do the skit that parodied ’80s workout videos. Lonely Island, consisting of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer, produced the skit that almost didn’t happen.

“I remember that week that Akiva, Jorma, and Andy were like, ‘You know what? We aren’t going to do a short this week,’” Barrymore recalled. “And I was like, no, no, no, no.”

Rudolph noted that “those were early days before they had to do one every single week because they were so good.”

“I kept begging,” Barrymore added. “I would go into their office every single day and I was like, I know it’s me again.”

“Are you serious? You had to beg for it? Rudolph asked, to which Barrymore exclaimed, “Beg!”

Rudolph said, “Thank God you did. We got ‘Body Fuzion.’”

“Body Fuzion” featured Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Amy Poehler as they followed instructor Barrymore’s lead in low-impact workouts.

During one moment of the short, Rudolph uses pencils as a weight and pronounces the word in a very unique way.

When Barrymore asked Rudolph why she pronounced it that way, the comedian said, “I don’t know. I just like doing stuff like that.”
