I built my dream home in Melbourne but have some serious regrets – here are the mistakes I made so you don’t do the same

A young woman has confessed all the things she’d do differently if she were to rebuild her house.

Tiffany Krylov designed her dream home in Melbourne, but since moving in she’s questioned some of her decisions.

From the ‘useless’ vertical window beside the front door to picking ‘high maintenance’ grass in her backyard, Ms Krylov shared the mistakes she made to prevent others from doing the same.

In a TikTok video captioned ‘you live and you learn’ she outlined everything she did right and wrong.

First Ms Krylov said it was a great decision installing power outlets ‘everywhere’ throughout the home for easy access to electricity.

Tiffany Krylov designed her dream home in Melbourne , but since moving in she’s questioned some of her decisions.

‘They seem expensive – they’re not. When in doubt, put power points,’ she said.

But one of her biggest blunders was opting to put a vertical window right beside the front door that isn’t frosted.

‘The dogs just sit here and bark at everyone, people can see when I’m home and people can break in [easily] and open [the door handle],’ she said.

In the laundry another thing she did right was have a large bench and cabinets installed for ‘precious’ storage space.

But Ms Krylov admitted she should’ve done more research when it came to backyard grass.

‘My old neighbour had beautiful grass, he took a lot of care and price into it. So I got the same grass. This is high maintenance grass!’ she said furiously.

‘Make sure you’re compatible with your grass. I needed easier, no commitment and I got full commitment.’

In the living room she opted to mount the television on a wall – a popular choice to hide cables – and she also installed power outlets high to ‘make her life easier’.

However, she also installed the Ethernet port behind the television, which allows you to connect your computer to the tv via a cord.

‘I randomly put the Ethernet cord there. I don’t know why,’ Ms Krylov said.

‘If you’re going to have an office – I shouldn’t even have to explain it – put them in here. Very handy. I know Wi-Fi exists but if you’re gaming, trust me you’re going to want to be wired in.’

The TikTok has since been viewed more than 158,000 times and many thanked Ms Krylov for sharing the insight. Others also shared alternative options to fix the mistakes.

‘Frost the window! You’ll still get the natural light but privacy!’ one commented.

‘The front door is easy fix most builders can take that and turn it into a wider door,’ another suggested.

Someone else agreed and said: ‘As someone renting a house with very few power points, put them everywhere!’

‘Your high maintenance grass looks great though!’ another added.
