A $38,000 Rolex sparked a raid on a president’s home and could get her fired

Lime: Peruvian President Dina Boluarte faces attempts to remove her from office for “permanent moral incapacity” amid a scandal over the ownership of at least three luxury watches.
The move to remove Boluarte from power came three days after police broke down the front door of his residence to search for Rolex watches as part of an investigation.
Boluarte, who took power in 2022 after his predecessor was accused of trying to illegally dissolve Congress, saw the beginning of his term marked by protests and the subsequent repression that left dozens dead.
She held on, despite widespread calls for her to resign or bring forward the election, but now faces new calls for her to resign over the scandal. Market research firm Ipsos measured Boluarte’s unpopularity rate at 88 percent in March.
