Poroshenko announced plans to run for president

The fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said that he plans to run for head of state again. Poroshenko stated this in an interview with Al Jazeera TV channel. At the same time, the politician added that for this we need to wait until the end of the war with Russia.

“Yes, I am going to participate in the next presidential elections. But first for these elections we need a victory,” – emphasized Poroshenko.

The ex-president also noted that if Ukraine joins the EU, he will run for the European Parliament.

Earlier, the current President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, in a conversation with Fox News, said that he would like the presidential elections to take place as planned, at the end of March 2024. In war conditions, according to Zelensky, it is very difficult to organize voting for all citizens, so elections will be held after the end of hostilities.

Petro Poroshenko served as President of Ukraine from 2014 to 2019. In the last elections, he was a rival of Vladimir Zelensky in 2019. Then both candidates advanced to the second round. Zelensky became the winner. More than 75% of voters voted for him. Poroshenko received just over 24% of the vote.

Aleksey Arestovich, a former adviser to Zelensky’s office, also announced plans to run in the presidential elections in Ukraine.
