The American Congress has also already held hearings to better understand the issues. The state of Tennessee was the first to legislate. A law, called ELVIS, for “Ensuring Likeness, Voice, and Image Security Act” was definitively adopted at the end of March. It frames the use of a person’s image or voice in a much broader context than simple advertising, as was the case before. It will come into force in July, and could quickly inspire other states. At the federal level, too, a bi-partisan committee is working hard on a new text that will better regulate the ownership of cultural property.
