The US Treasury temporarily allowed transactions with Russian banks

The US Treasury has authorized transactions with Russian banks, including VTB, Central Bank, Sberbank and Alfa Bank, for settlements in the energy sector. According to licenses, issued by the American department, the ban on operations has been lifted until November 1, 2024. On this pays attention Kommersant publication.

Among the banks that received a temporary license were Otkritie Bank, Sovcombank, Rosbank, VEB.RF, Zenit Bank and Bank St. Petersburg.

In the resolution, the ministry explained that transactions related to the extraction, production, processing, liquefaction, transportation or purchase of oil and a number of other energy resources, including LNG, wood, coal and uranium, will be considered energy-related. The license also allows transactions with Russian banks related to the production, supply or exchange of energy by any means.

The United States began imposing sanctions against Russian financial institutions in 2022, at the beginning of which Moscow launched a full-scale military invasion of Ukraine.
