The Basmanny court arrested Ukrainian activist Korchinsky in absentia

The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested Ukrainian public figure Dmitry Korchinsky in absentia on charges of inciting hatred based on nationality. About it reports “Kommersant”. Allegedly, the reason for initiating the case was Korchinsky’s calls to burn the churches of the Moscow Patriarchate. The Russian Investigative Committee stated that it would investigate these statements back in the spring of last year.

As follows from the database of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Korchinsky is also wanted.

Korchinsky, whom Russian media call a Ukrainian nationalist (he characterizes himself as a “professional provocateur and people’s awakener”), is not the first time he has been arrested in absentia in Russia. In 2014, he was sent into custody in absentia along with other former members of the Ukrainian organization UNA-UNSO, who, according to investigators, fought in Chechnya on the side of Chechen separatists in the mid-1990s.

• Korchinsky has been involved in political activities since the late 1980s; he also acts as a publicist and writer. His views can be described as radical and at the same time eclectic. Over the years, he spoke either from the position of radical Ukrainian nationalism or Christian fundamentalism, or created, together with the Russian right-wing radical philosopher Alexander Dugin and the Ukrainian pro-Russian activist Natalia Vitrenko, the “International Eurasian Union” and even spoke to activists of the “Nashi” movement in the “Seliger” camp. . In 2013-2014, he himself and his supporters from the Brotherhood party actively participated in the Kiev Maidan; he himself allegedly fought against Russian-backed separatists in the Donbass. After Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, he announced the creation of the “Brotherhood” battalion as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
