Agriculture: the government grants beet growers "exemptions necessary to protect their culture"announces Agnès Pannier-Runacher

“I have decided to grant beet growers the necessary exemptions to protect their crops,” announcement, Friday April 5, on France Bleu Nord, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty. It intends to support farmers who, due to “mild winter”face a “very high risk of aphid multiplication, and therefore of yellows for beets”.

Agnès Pannier-Runacher therefore leaves beet growers the possibility of “do up to five passes of Movento”, an insecticide. “Today, we are doing two passes, they will be able to do three first and if the aphid is still present, two more,” specifies the delegate minister.

“This is a practice that we have developed with the beet industry to be able to protect ourselves from aphids this year. We must offer them solutions”assures Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

She ensures that the government is not ignoring public health by authorizing these five passages of phytosanitary products: “Phytosanitary products are prohibited when they have a proven impact on public health. This is the entire policy that we have pursued in recent years to analyze, phytosanitary by phytosanitary, those which have a proven impact, and the use of these phytosanitary products which have a proven impact on public health has decreased by 96%. This shows the effort of farmers to engage in a more ecological practice“, estimates Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

The delegate minister recognizes that for certain phytosanitary products, “We do not know exactly the extent of the risk. We have not demonstrated the impact on health but we are vigilant and we tell ourselves that if we have alternatives that we are sure that they have no harm “impact on health, it’s better to use these alternatives. But that’s not why we have proof that what we use has an impact on health”, she justifies.
